I’ve been writing short stories lately, some of which I plan to serialize here on my blog for free. Part 2 of Hunter’s Moon will be up tomorrow morning, and I’ll continue posting every Saturday until that story is wrapped up. There are around 12 parts, each approximating 1,000 words.
Additionally, if anyone likes what I’m posting and wants to read more, I’ll be offering short stories on my Patreon starting May 1st for a very reasonable fee.
Tier 1 patrons will receive a PDF of the story on the 1st of each month (for only $1!). Tier 2 patrons will receive the story plus bonus content, which could include anything from detailed character bios or worldbuilding notes to “behind-the-scenes” articles on how I came to write the story, the revision process, etc. Tier 3 will receive all of the above as well as a chance to vote on my next topic or genre.
I’m doing this not because I want a huge following or to make money (though every little bit helps), but as a way to motivate myself and hold myself accountable. I’ve been writing for more than twenty years, and I’ve written loads of short stories and a handful of novellas and novels (most of which will never see the light of day).
My biggest problem has always been finishing things. So, I’m hoping that by giving myself a recurring deadline, I’ll be able to write, revise, edit, and polish one 2,000-5,000 word story each month. Donations will simply help provide encouragement as well as buy me the occasional cup of coffee or ream of printer paper.
Ultimately, I plan to shift to longer works, novellas and novels, but you don’t run a marathon without a little training, which is why I’ve chosen to focus on short stories this year.
I’ll be posting more about my upcoming projects soon, so watch this space. In the meantime, check out Part 2 of Hunter’s Moon, which I’m going to post tomorrow morning. Thanks for reading!
